PRESS STATEMENT FROM SIME DARBY PROPERTY
Dato' Tunku Putra Badlishah
Managing Director
Sime Darby Property
In view of the recent media reports on the development of Taman Subang Ria, Sime Darby Property would like to firstly clarify that Taman Subang Ria is a private property and not a public park as alleged by certain parties.
The 72.63-acre property was alienated to Sime UEP Properties Bhd by the Selangor State government in December 1987 and it has never been part of the Subang Jaya development Master Plan, which was approved by the Local Authority (Majlis Bandaran Petaling Jaya) in March 1980 and therefore not part of Subang Jaya's open space requirement.
Nevertheless, Sime Darby Property wishes to reiterate that we have every intention of upgrading 53.66 acres of the said property as a recreational park and handing it over to the relevant authorities, who could then choose to gazette Taman Subang Ria as a green lung and public recreational park in perpetuity.
However, the cost to upgrade Taman Subang Ria into a high
quality recreational park is significant. Therefore, we are planning a
low-density, low-rise residential development to offset the cost of the park upgrade, which will only take up about 20% of the overall Taman Subang Ria area.
Sime Darby Property would like to state that we have organised two meetings in the last three months on November 15, 2009 and February 25th 2010 respectively with representatives of the Subang Jaya Residents Association (SJRA) as well as the UEP Subang Jaya (USJ) Residents Association (USJRA) in the presence of Subang Jaya assemblyman YB Hannah Yeoh to share with them our plans for Taman Subang Ria and more importantly to obtain their
views and feedback on the upgrading and development plan so that Taman Subang Ria could be turned into a truly urban recreational park.
We would also like to put on record that we have on 24th February 2010, erected at Taman Subang Ria the "Notis Pemberitahuan" as required by Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) under 'Akta Perancangan Bandar & Desa 1976 (Akta 172) to inform the public of our proposed plan and to invite eligible landowners to submit written objection to MPSJ within the stipulated time.
To further facilitate feedback as well as to inform residents of Subang Jaya about the issues surrounding Taman Subang Ria, a dedicated website has also been developed at www.tamansubangria.org.
It remains our opinion that the latest plans to upgrade Taman Subang Ria will benefit the residents of Subang Jaya and the public in general as they will end up with a much improved park that will be handed back to the State.
