VEHICLE owners parked at Sunway Pyramid will have better peace of mind when they shop knowing that their vehicles are now “extra” protected with the new Smart Parking System introduced recently.
To prevent car theft, the Smart Parking Solution will be providing a Lock feature in the Sunway Pyramid Mobile App, so customers who enter the mall will be able to activate a “lock” feature in the app registered to them.
Sunway Malls & Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said once the “lock” is activated, the License Plate Recognition system will recognise that the vehicle is not meant to exit the car park.
“Customers will have to then “unlock” their vehicle via the app again, to make payment for their parking fee and the LPR system will then allow the vehicle to exit the mall,” he said during a media preview of the new Smart Parking System.
On top of that, Chan said CCTV monitoring is maintained at each entry and exit points with the License Plate Recognition system, and those who pay via the AutoPay System machines are also monitored via CCTV.
“With the Smart Parking System, Sunway will reduce the workload on handling parking tickets. The reduced number of AutoPay System machines also means there is minimal need to handle and monitor the cash in the machines. With the reduction of these tasks, our car park employees can then be deployed to increase patrols and security presence in the car park, in addition to providing a more personalised assistance to customers where necessary,” he added.
The Sunway Smart Parking is the largest fully integrated license plate recognition system which embraces multiple e-wallet partners including GrabPay, Boost, WeChat Pay, Alipay, Touch N’ Go Digital, and Maybank QR alongside credit partners MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB, UnionPay, and MyDebit.
The cashless and ticketless parking experience is part of Sunway’s digitalisation journey to enable hassle-free experiences for its shoppers. No more winding down windows and stretching your arms to take a ticket, Sunway Smart Parking will also reduce the carbon footprint of all shoppers and starting with the malls first, in line with Sunway’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Sunway Smart Parking will be deployed within Sunway City, which comprises Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Hotels and Menara Sunway. It is the first smart parking system to embrace multiple e-wallet payment options to provide greater convenience for all drivers. Currently, the system is online for season parkers and will be rolled out to public in Q1 2020.
With Sunway Smart Parking, drivers do not need to retrieve and pay using a parking ticket when they enter and exit. Instead, they will need to register their car plate number through the Sunway Parking portal. Once registered, they only need to ensure that their car plate is attached to a participating e-wallet to make payment, which will then enable them to move in and out of Sunway properties without any hassle.
When shoppers who are registered with the system enter the properties, their car plates will be scanned by a licence plate recognition system. Once the license plate has been identified, the parking boom gate will automatically lift and they can be on their way.
For shoppers who do not use any e-wallets or do not have internet access, they can opt to pay with the Touch ‘n’ Go card or through the auto payment system for this period to allow time for adoption. Shoppers who register their car plate numbers during the pre-registration period will get the chance to enjoy a one-time free parking when it is open to public.
