Classic Cars, Big Hearts: Mike’s Retro Ride Spreads Merdeka Joy

Subang Jaya roared to life on Merdeka morning as vintage engines purred in unison for a cause that was as heartwarming as it was nostalgic. Mike’s Retro Ride, the annual classic car charity drive organised by Kelab Kereta Retro Mike, marked its 21st edition this year – and what a celebration it turned out to be.

Almost 300 participants, including members of the club and children from 11 charity homes, gathered bright and early at SS15. The event was more than just a showcase of gleaming chrome and polished nostalgia; it was a mission to make a difference.

In a remarkable show of generosity, the club donated RM5,000 each to the following welfare homes:
Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary; Yayasan Hiichiikok; Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home; Rumah Kasih Harmoni Paya Jaras; Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Victory Malaysia; Yayasan Anak-Anak Yatim Wardatul Jannah; Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Mega Kanak-Kanak Orang Asli; Rumah Charis; Persatuan Rumah Kanak-Kanak Ini Disayangi; Parents Without Partners Bhd; and Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor.

In total, RM55,000 was raised through the tireless efforts of club members—an extraordinary achievement that underscores the spirit of giving.

After a cheerful flag-off, the children were treated to an experience few could forget: a joyride in classic cars, cruising through Subang Jaya in style before arriving at Dorsett Grand Subang. There, a sumptuous buffet lunch awaited, capping off a day filled with laughter, nostalgia, and heartfelt moments.

From muscle cars to timeless vintage beauties, the convoy was more than a feast for the eyes – it was a moving tribute to community, compassion, and Merdeka spirit. As club president Michael Sundram and his passionate team proved yet again, classic cars don’t just preserve the past—they can drive change for the future.
