It was a morning of patriotism, nostalgia and community spirit as 40 classic cars rolled out from The Summit USJ Mall in a special Merdeka-themed convoy, bringing Subang Jaya together for the ‘Rakyat Disantuni’ Program 2025.
Organised by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) with support from MPP Zone 4, the National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB), and The Summit Mall, the event celebrated Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day with activities that went beyond flag-waving.
The day kicked off with ‘plogging’ around USJ 2, where 200 students from Oakbridge International School joined residents in picking up litter — a creative way to combine fitness and environmental care.
Adding star power to the occasion were four national paralympic athletes — Adray Uzair Abu Bakar, Mohd Hairul Azrin Mohamad, Muhammad Rafique Farhan Saiful Nizam and Ridzuan Puzi. Visitors had the chance to meet these champions, a gesture of appreciation for their role in putting Malaysia on the global sports map.
The celebration also featured a Children’s Merdeka Chess Tournament, a blood donation campaign, free health checks by PPUM, and exhibitions by various government agencies and private sector players. Local entrepreneurs showcased their products, adding a marketplace buzz to the patriotic spirit.
Throughout August, MBSJ has been running patriotic initiatives, including the Jalur Gemilang Flag Campaign, a Merdeka Fishing Challenge at Taman Tasik Kg. Sri Aman, and Choral Speaking and Choir Competitions involving 18 schools.
“These programs reflect our commitment to unity, patriotism and community bonding,” said MBSJ in a statement.
