DENGUE fever is back again in Subang Jaya with almost 1,000 cases reported in a week across the neighbourhoods.

ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng raised her concern with the spike in dengue cases across the community, ringing alarm bells for residents to make an effort to search and destroy potential mosquito breeding spots in their homes and compound.

“We have almost 1,000 cases of dengue reported in a week and this is a cause for concern. Residents need to step forward to help us curb this threat.”

“All it takes is for every house owner to spend 10 minutes a week to check their homes and compound for stagnated clean water which may potentially be a mosquito breeding spot,” she said while making her rounds with enforcement officers from the Petaling District Health Office and Subang Jaya City Council in USJ13.

The neighbourhood of USJ13 has been declared a hotspot by the health authorities fter having shown signs of a spike in the number of dengue cases reported in a week. During the morning house-to-house inspection, two house owners were slapped with a RM500 compound while another house owner was issued a warning letter to clean up their compound.

Right after the 3-hour long effort, officers from the Petaling District Health Office handed over 20 sets of their Dengue Combi Kit to USJ13 Rukun Tetangga chairman Kelvin Chew. The kit is for volunteers in the community who carry out search and destroy efforts. Each kit consists of a vest and a bag which contains a hand suction pipet, bottle, torchlight and notepad which will be used during any anti-dengue initatives by the community.

Michelle urged residents to check their homes for mosquito breeding spots and also join their neighbourhood initiatives to keep dengue at bay.
