EDITORIAL: CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY: BUY HIM AND THE FAMILY TICKETS TO JOM DURIAN 13 ON JUNE 30

IF you haven’t made any plans for Father’s Day yet, then here’s a suggestion. Buy the “King of Your Heart” and the rest of the family tickets to enjoy the King of Fruits at Jom Durian 13 this June 30. Make it a memorable celebration by treating him to an hour with durians and at the same time do your bit for charity.

Here’s what’s happening at Sunway Pyramid this June 29 & 30. The ever-popular Jom Durian “Eat-All-You-Can” in One Hour for charity is back after an absence of three years. Brought together by the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia in partnership with Sunway Pyramid this event is aimed at raising funds to fulfill wishes of terminally ill children across the country.

There are two sessions to choose from:

June 29 (Saturday) –Corporate Tables. These are priced at RM5,000 per table that seats 10 guests;

June 30 (Sunday) – Public sessions at RM50 per person to eat all you can in one hour.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐞 (𝟎𝟏𝟐-𝟐𝟎𝟓𝟓𝟖𝟔𝟏) 𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐨𝐡 (𝟎𝟏𝟐-𝟑𝟐𝟖𝟖𝟓𝟓𝟕). 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬, 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐫 (𝟎𝟏𝟐-𝟐𝟕𝟑 𝟏𝟑𝟑𝟔).

All proceeds will go to the charity.

You are now spoilt for choice for Father’s Day. If you have a deeper pocket and want a taste of Musang King, then pick the corporate session. If your pocket is not so deep, purchase the public tickets at RM50 per person and enjoy the best of durians this season (no Musang King off course since this is a charity event to raise funds).

There’s a second suggestion for you for Father’s Day. Get your family over to Las Carretas Restaurant & Bar in Taipan USJ10 any day from now until Sept 30 and celebrate your loved ones. Here’s the extra bonus – for every RM100 that you spend at the restaurant, RM1 will be pledged to the Subang Jaya Community Ambulance to help save lives in the community. Celebrate your special day and chip in to a good cause while you are at it.

Over the past year, we’ve been getting lots of calls and Whatsapp messages asking why the Subang Jaya City Council has been felling trees along Persiaran Kewajipan and Persiaran Tujuan. Huge majestic trees have been either trimmed or felled. While many see these “giants” as iconic, the local council has a responsibility to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians passing under these trees. We caught up with MBSJ landscaper to find out why and what is being done to continue to green the city without compromising public safety. Check out Page 4 where we have tried to answer as many of the questions we received from the public.

We are now in the last month of the first half of 2024. Have we achieved any of the targets we set ourselves out to do for the New Year? The New Year is now half a year old.

For the second half of this year, we will be welcoming our new Datuk Bandar. Who he or she will be is as good a guess for every one of us. But for sure, he/she will be the 4th Mayor to serve us since Subang Jaya was conferred city status in 2020.

Someone quipped that Subang Jaya has become a “Lebuhraya Datuk Bandar”; a stepping stone for senior government officers before they move up the ladder. While we congratulate each and every one of them for their promotions, we wonder what will happen to the vision and policies each Mayor brings with him/her if they do not have sufficient time to introduce, implement and see the labour of their fruits.

What will become of Subang Jaya when the driver keeps getting changed almost on an annual basis? While the higher ups will say the policies remain and will be implemented by the council, we cannot hide the fact that the council like a vessel needs a good captain to steer it forward. What happens to the discipline and moral of the council staff? Which Mayor is going to crack the whip for any wrongdoings if they know their tenure is just temporarily short?

We leave this for your thoughts over a cup of coffee/tea. Do let us know what you think of it.

Here’s to a good month ahead. To all the fathers out there, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. Insist on a date with the King of Fruits this June 29 or 30. You deserve the best from your children.
