Fur the Love of Cats: MYDIN’s CSR Goes Feline-Friendly

It was a purr-fect occasion as MYDIN Subang Jaya rolled out the red carpet for a different kind of community outreach – one with whiskers, tails, and a whole lot of heart.

In conjunction with International Cat Day, DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, graced the launch of “Misi Meow Prihatin”, a nationwide initiative aimed at helping stray cats.

The campaign, a joint effort between MYDIN and the animal welfare group PAWS, will see cat food banks set up at 27 MYDIN hypermarkets nationwide. Customers are encouraged to donate cat food, helping to ease the burden of shelters and support the care of homeless felines.

“Every living creature matters,” said MYDIN Managing Director Datuk Wira (Dr) Haji Ameer Ali Mydin. “This marks the first time we are extending our social outreach to include the animals that live alongside us. Through this programme, we hope to inspire compassion among our customers and make it easier for them to give back.”

In addition to the campaign, MYDIN also unveiled its new in-house range of cat food and pet care products under the SmartCat and SuperCat brands, offering affordable and quality choices for pet lovers. The move signifies the retailer’s entry into the pet care segment, in line with growing consumer demand.

To support PAWS directly, MYDIN donated RM10,000 worth of pet food and supplies as part of its broader “MYDIN Prihatin” CSR programme.

For Subang Jaya’s cat-loving community, it’s a timely initiative that proves even in retail, empathy goes a long way and sometimes, it even meows.
