Gift of Sight for Underprivileged Children

Lions Club of Subang Jaya provides free eye checks and prescription glasses for underprivileged children

UNDERPRIVILEGED children living in Subang Jaya can see better now after getting a free eye screening and receiving prescription spectacles from the Lions Club of Subang Jaya.

The initiative which took in 200 kids from around Subang Jaya was carried out recently to screen and offer prescription spectacles to those who needed it.

According to organising chairperson Lion Joseph Lee the initiative was to help children who had vision problems.

“Our children are having extra screen time on their IT devices, as classes move online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our project’s goal is to help fix the vision problems of children, so they may do better academically and reduce the likelihood of mishaps arising from poor vision.”

The “Gift of Sight” project was carried out with MBSJ MPP Zon 3 and 4 councillors, Lee Jen Uyin and Kamarul Hisham, who helped to identify deserving families in their respective areas.

“We aim to complete screening by November and have eye glasses made and dispensed this December. Our recipients will have time to get used to wearing spectacles before the new academic year begins in 2022,” Joseph said.

LCSJ has a long history of doing free eye checks for the public. This year, the Club has enhanced their sight project and included donating spectacles to deserving children.
