GOPI NATHAN NAMBIAR– STAYING HOME TO FIGHT COVID-19

It’s now 31 days since we’ve all stayed home in the joint efforts to fight Covid-19. The Movement Control Order which was first implemented on March 18 2020 has restricted our movement in a bid to bring down the curve of infection from the “invisible” virus.

We spoke to Subang Jaya resident Gopi Nathan Nambiar who moved over to his daughter’s home in Kuala Lumpur before the MCO came into effect on March 18. With a suitcase each, Gopi together with his wife and third daughter have been “camping” out at his second married daughter’s place ever since. He shares with us the following.

How are you coping with the MCO? What are you doing to keep your time occupied?

I started my day reading news online while having my breakfast. As I dabble in Bursa, I also monitor and do some trades (small time). For the rest of the day I spend it with the grandchildren, reading books to my grandchildren and playing with them. I also have time to read and go on the internet.

Are you happy to get more time to spend with the family? Tell us how you are doing this?

Definitely. Even though my grandchildren do visit us regularly in Subang Jaya, being with them 24/7 these last 30 days had brought us closer and they have been telling us not to return to Subang Jaya when the MCO is lifted. It is going to be difficult when the time comes.

Have you found new hobbies while staying at home? What have you done together?

Yes my wife and I completed a 3 week online course on Dementia conducted by University Tasmania, Australia -Wicking Dementia Research and Educational Centre. My daughter has a good collection of Board games and we as a family enjoy playing them and the grandchildren join us in most occasion.

How are you keeping fit and alert at home? Have you gained weight?

I do a lot of walking around the house and at times join my daughters in their aerobic sessions as best as I can. No I have not gained weight.

How are you keeping abreast with the news on Covid-19 and MCO?

Reading news online, Internet and from TV.

What’s your advise to everyone?

As this COVID-19 is unlike other diseases that we know off, paying attention to the information from the Government is very important. “STAY AT HOME” Ensure we keep abreast to the extent of the virus spread and how we can all play a part in ensuring we stop the spread to this virus. Practice social distancing and follow MCO strictly.
