SUBANG JAYA, SEPT 12 2024: SUBANG Jaya police have refuted a viral video which claimed an attempt to kidnap a child at the school near the SS15 Darul Ehsan mosque on Sept 11 2024.
Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the case was being investigated as a sexual assault on a minor.
“On Sept 10, a 10-year-old student was approached by stranger at the school near the SS15 mosque. The suspect allegedly held the boy’s shoulder and asked him for his name and home address.”
“The boy quickly ran off into the school. On Sept 11, a CCTV footage was posted showing the suspect holding the boy’s shoulder,” he said.
Wan Azlan said the video went viral and claimed that there was an attempted kidnap.
“This is totally untrue and false.”
“We are investigating the case as sexual assault on a minor under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction and also under Section 233 Communication and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.
Wan Azlan urged the public to be more responsible when posting material on social media which may be confusing or unverified.
He urged those with information on the case to contact SJN SITI SHABILAH BINTI ZULKIFLE@AWANG at 010-2667017 to assist in the investigations.
