Jamaliah Playfully Calls Out Councillor for “Beating Her” to AED Installation at SS15 Hall

Selangor EXCO for Public Health and Environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin shared a light-hearted moment during the launch of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the SS15 Community Hall, joking that MBSJ MPP Zon 1 councillor Ken Chia had “beaten her to it”.

The AED unit, installed by MPP Zon 1, was officially launched by Jamaliah, who quipped that Ken had moved faster than her in bringing life-saving devices into public spaces.

“He beat me to installing AEDs in community halls and public areas,” she said with a smile, drawing laughter from attendees.

Despite the playful jab, Jamaliah emphasised the importance of expanding AED accessibility across Selangor, revealing her intention to push for such installations to become standard in future developments.

“I want to make it a requirement to install AEDs in public spaces. The unit may cost a bit, but if we can save just one precious life, it is all worth it,” she said.

She added that early access to AEDs can significantly improve survival rates during cardiac emergencies, especially in high-traffic areas and sports venues.

Jamaliah also commended the Subang Jaya community for its proactive efforts in prioritising public safety.

“I’m proud to see the community stepping up to safeguard residents, particularly in active spaces like sports facilities where such equipment can make a critical difference,” she said.

The installation at SS15 Community Hall marks another step towards creating heart-safe communities, with local leaders and residents alike showing growing support for wider AED deployment across the state.

Jamaliah also visited the World Environment Day booths set up at the hall, which drew interest from residents who dropped by. Visitors had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the AED and the importance of basic first aid in saving the lives of loved ones during medical emergencies.
