Balai Polis Subang Jaya in SS17 has received a much-needed comfort upgrade, with new air-conditioning units installed at its public counter area earlier this month.
On July 7, two new 3.0hp air-conditioning units were installed at the station’s counter, replacing old units that were no longer functioning and beyond repair. For months prior, both police personnel and members of the public had to rely on stand fans in the hot and stuffy environment.
In addition to the new installations, three existing air-conditioning units in other parts of the station were also serviced to improve overall working conditions.
The effort was made possible through contributions from Subang Jaya residents Max Ong, Dr Arvin Rajadurai, Alex Wong and Goh Ban Tiong, following a community-led initiative.
SS17 Rukun Tetangga chairman Teh Eng Hock said the move came after repeated complaints from visitors and officers about the uncomfortable conditions.
“Those who went to lodge police reports complained about the heat and stuffiness. They would only spend 10 to 20 minutes at the counter, yet they were in discomfort. Imagine what the police personnel had to endure, as they are on duty 24 hours daily,” he said.
Eng Hock initially reached out to Subang MP Wong Chen for assistance, and an allocation had been approved. However, the process was disrupted when the parliamentary allocation was blocked.
“After waiting a few more weeks, we did not see any resolution coming and decided to take matters into our own hands. Kita Jaga Kita, as we tend to say, and I put the word out to the community,” he added.
According to him, the response was almost immediate.
“Within minutes, literally before my instant noodles could cook, we received enough sponsors to commence the project,” he said, crediting Max Ong, also an SS17 Rukun Tetangga committee member, for helping to coordinate and partially sponsor the initiative.
Resident Dr Arvin Rajadurai said the contribution reflects a shared responsibility between the community and law enforcement.
“As a responsible resident, I got a message from the community and decided to help out. We know the police take care of us, and it is a two-way relationship – we should take care of them too,” he said.
SS17 Police Station officer-in-charge Insp Mohd Nazril Haizar Abd Wahab expressed appreciation for the community’s support.
“I would like to thank the residents of Subang Jaya, especially SS17 Rukun Tetangga. This will improve the comfort level for those coming to the police station to make reports,” he said.
