LEARNING THROUGH PLAY FOR KIDS IN SS13

Learning through play can be lots of fun for children and that’s exactly what the kids in SS13 enjoy during their fortnightly engagement through the Bumblebee Program.

According to Love Subang Pastors Fellowship chairperson Rev. Wong Yin Ming, the theme of Bumblebee SS13 is LEARNING THROUGH PLAY. The program according to her is a two-fold – to reach out to the children aged 4 to 12 years in SS13, so as to enhance and improve their education, as well as to impact and build their character.

“This two-fold objective is achieved through a few activities which we carry out on a fortnightly basis, over a period of two hours (9.00 – 11.00 am) on the first and third Saturdays of each month at the Senior Citizens Room in the 3K Complex in SS13.”

“One of the main activities is the Homework Club for two important subjects, namely English and Mathematics and this is conducted by volunteers from SJAG who have experience and skills in teaching English and Maths using innovative and interesting activities,” Wong said.

According to her, besides the serious sessions the group also has story-telling and learning-through-songs sessions where the children are taught moral values such as good manners, obedience, honesty and truthfulness.

“Games that are based on subjects taught, i.e. English and Maths-related games contribute towards the fun aspect of learning in our Bumblebee program, in addition to educational toys for our Free Play session.”

“It is through these activities that SS13 Bumblebee aims to develop and enhance not only the educational skills but also the fine and gross motor skills and character of the children in SS13,” she added.

Bumblebee Program is a community project by Subang Jaya Assembly of God.
