If you’ve walked around SS15 lately, you might’ve noticed some unusual “renovations” outside a few shoplots from fenced-up drains to kitchen extensions built right over the longkang. Well, Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) has had enough.
This week, MBSJ issued official warning notices to several business operators in SS15 after finding that some shopowners had:

Installed metal structures over public drains to store items like gas tanks,

Fenced up or grilled over public drain areas as if they were part of their own business space,

Turned the space above drain covers into makeshift kitchens, and
-
Built cement slabs or tiled floors over the public drainage system without leaving proper service access points.
According to MBSJ MPP Zon 1 Councillor Ken Chia, these enforcement actions are part of the council’s ongoing effort to ensure public drains can be properly maintained and cleaned.
“Public drains are not private space. When shopowners cover or block access, it becomes hard for MBSJ to carry out regular maintenance,” Ken said.
He reminded business operators to comply with public space regulations and not obstruct city infrastructure. “We appreciate cooperation from all traders to maintain cleanliness and safety in our commercial zones, especially in busy hubs like SS15,” he added.
MBSJ will continue monitoring the area and take further action if necessary to keep Subang Jaya’s drainage system running smoothly rain or shine.
