SUBANG JAYA, Nov 10 — A day after SS14 residents staged a half-hour protest along Persiaran Kewajipan against the proposed elevated flyover linking Persiaran Lagoon Selatan to the Subang–Kelana Link, the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has issued a statement defending the project as a necessary step to ease congestion across Subang Jaya, Sunway, and USJ.
In its media statement released today, MBSJ said the flyover project is part of a broader strategic effort to improve traffic flow within the township. The council stressed that the project had undergone several rounds of community engagement and technical review before being approved.
Two community consultations were held at Padang Assam, SS14 on May 19, 2023, and October 13, 2023, followed by a public town hall session at MBSJ headquarters on November 22, 2024.
“The inputs and feedback received from residents and relevant agencies have been carefully considered to ensure comprehensive and effective traffic dispersal that brings optimum benefits to the community,” MBSJ said.
The council also clarified that the project’s design has undergone a detailed technical review process, including a Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA), a Road Safety Audit (RSA), and assessments by the Public Works Department (JKR) Petaling District, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
MBSJ added that the flyover meets all requirements under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) and will be built entirely on government land.
The project has obtained its Development Order (DO) approval through the city council’s One-Stop Centre (OSC) Committee. However, the council noted that there is no requirement for a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) or Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as the project involves a local authority road and does not require land acquisition.
According to MBSJ, all design proposals and feedback were presented to and supported by multiple technical agencies, including PLANMalaysia Selangor, the Petaling District and Land Office, Air Selangor, TNB Subang Jaya, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Department of Environment (DOE), Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), LUAS, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Department of Minerals and Geoscience, among others.
