WHEN Kawasan Rukun Tetangga SS17 chairman Teh Eng Hock and his assistant secretary Noor Hisham Mohamad Taha offered their crown on the “chopping block” for a cause, their expectations to raise sufficient funds were not optimistic.
But after several weeks on the “campaign trail”, both successfully raised close to RM10,000 to channel to the Subang Jaya Community Ambulance.
Both knew that no matter how much they raised, their community was expecting them to “Kasi Botak” for the campaign.
On Merdeka Day, Subang MP Wong Chen was one of the first to have a go at shaving their heads. With efficient electric clippers, Wong Chen became the “grasscutter” for the morning as he mowed the first line of hair off Eng Hock and Noor Hisham’s crown.
“We wanted to do something different this year for our Merdeka celebrations. So Hisham and I decided why not get a free haircut while championing a cause.”
“Response was lukewarm at first but the momentum built up as we got closer to the date. Donations which trickled in at the beginning began flowing in,” he said.
Everyone from the KRT SS17 including family members had a fun time taking turns to shave the two heads. It was a good haircut and a good fundraising initiative.
Perhaps next year, a female member will join them?
