PETRONAS Gas Berhad has been directed to immediately carry out ground testing at nine key locations in Subang Jaya where roads intersect the natural gas pipeline.
Parliamentary Select Committee on Pipeline Safety chairman Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab issued the directive during a select committee hearing in Parliament today (August 8 2025), following a detailed presentation on the intersecting sites, accompanied by maps and preliminary data.
Yusuf who is MP for Tanjong Manis (Sarawak) and also a civil engineer by profession said a civil engineer by profession, issued a firm directive to proceed with testing, noting that road-pipeline intersections are a real and serious safety concern.
“Testing must be done. No delay,” he said.
Subang MP Wong Chen, who raised the matter during the hearing, urged both PGB and the relevant government ministries to act without delay.
“I asked that PETRONAS Gas and the government ministries quickly test the grounds in all nine sites and prepare a technical report. The report should then be presented in a town hall meeting with residents,” Wong Chen said, underscoring the importance of public accountability and safety.
The hearing, described as “productive and reassuring,” also saw the participation of Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat and MBSJ Deputy Mayor Zulkurnain Che Ali, who were present in support of the call for action.
“The ball is now in PGB and the federal government’s court. We await their response, action plans, and proper engagement with the public,” Wong Chen added.
