The courts were buzzing with energy over a weekend last month as Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) hosted one of its largest pickleball tournaments to date, attracting players and enthusiasts from across the region.
The event featured three hotly contested categories – Women’s Doubles (DUPR < 4.0), Women’s Doubles 35+ (DUPR < 3.5), and Mixed Doubles (DUPR < 3.0). Each match brought high-octane action, proving just how far the sport has come in cultivating a passionate and competitive following in the local community.
Over the course of two days, the courts saw heart-pounding rallies, swift footwork, and tactical plays as players fought tooth and nail for top honours. Cheers and applause echoed around the venue with every thrilling point, drawing spectators into the pulse of the competition. For many, it was more than just a tournament, it was a celebration of the spirit of pickleball.
MBSJ’s commitment to developing pickleball as a community sport was on full display, with the tournament designed to cater to a range of skill levels and age groups. The inclusion of the 35+ women’s category gave more seasoned players a platform to shine, while the Mixed Doubles event saw diverse pairings put their chemistry and coordination to the test.
Players came in from all corners of the Klang Valley and beyond, turning the Subang Jaya venue into a melting pot of talent and camaraderie. Despite the competitive setting, the sportsmanship on display remained exemplary, opponents often congratulated each other mid-match and shared post-game tips and banter off the court.
For many first-time participants, the tournament offered a valuable opportunity to compete in an organised setting, paving the way for them to sharpen their game for future events. Meanwhile, returning players were quick to note the tournament’s growth in both scale and intensity compared to previous editions.
As the final medals were awarded and exhausted players cooled off after their final rallies, there was a clear sense that this was only the beginning.
