Residents in USJ11 are raising alarm after children were allegedly seen running and jumping from rooftop to rooftop in broad daylight; an act residents say could have ended in serious injury. MBSJ MPP Zon 3 councillor Christopher Joseph, who was present when the boys and their parents were called in, urged parents to monitor their kids more closely and stressed that rooftops are a clear “No No”.
Residents sounded the alarm
The USJ11 neighbourhood was reportedly abuzz after residents claimed several children were treating terrace-house rooftops like a playground, moving from one home to another during the day. Some residents also recorded video clips and shared them with the police and the local community, warning that one slip could have led to a fall or a roof giving way.
Police called in the boys
Not long after the reports spread, three boys were identified and asked to come to the police station together with their parents. The children were questioned on what they were doing and were subsequently given a stern warning not to repeat the rooftop stunt.
“Playground is one thing, rooftops another”
Councillor Christopher Joseph reminded parents that while kids playing outside is normal, running on people’s rooftops crosses a dangerous line. He cautioned that the children could have been badly hurt if they fell off the roof or crashed through it, adding a local-flavoured reminder: “Lompat si katak lompat, Janganlah Panjat tinggi-tinggi.”
Community reminder to parents
Residents hope the incident serves as a wake-up call for families to check where their children go during free time especially during school breaks and afternoons when adults may be busy. As a general safety measure, parents are encouraged to talk to their kids about boundaries, respect for neighbours’ property, and the real risks of heights even when a stunt looks “fun” in the moment.
