FACTORY owners in USJ1 and surrounding neighbourhoods will soon be able to sleep better during a downpour once work to build a RM335,000 flood water retention pond is completed in September this year.
The construction of a flood water retention pond at Jalan Industri USJ 1/2 will provide relief during heavy downpours and help prevent future flooding.
ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng said the project has been pursued for over a year, and after successful coordination with the State Government, Land Office, and Drainage and Irrigation Department, construction will begin on June 23rd and is expected to be completed by September 14th of this year.
“The retention pond will serve as a reservoir for rain runoff, holding and distributing the water to mitigate flooding. It is part of proactive measures to protect the community and create a safer and more resilient future.”
“Prior to this project, a bund was raised along the Klang River to further enhance flood protection.” she said at a press conference after a simple ground-breaking ceremony on site.
“We’re taking proactive steps to protect our community. And together, we’re creating a safer and more resilient future,” she added.
The industrial lot owners had suffered huge losses when flood water inundated the area back in December 2021 and March 2022.
The funding for the retention pond was sourced from the Selangor Penyayang Project, demonstrating the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in addressing the community’s needs.
Melvin Lim who represented the industrial lot owners in the area thanked Michelle and MBSJ councillor Zon 4 Kamarul Hisham for making the retention pond a reality.
“We can sleep better every time it rains once this pond is completed and functioning,” he said.
The construction will utilise a portion of the open space beside the Klang River, and the retention pond will have a capacity to handle 2,708 cubic meters of water. To regulate water flow, a flap gate will be used to release water from the pond into the river.
