ELEVEN-year-old Ryan Kok has been baking two 5-inch chiffon cakes at a time with his small oven at home over the last two weeks.
The challenging task has not deterred this Subang Jaya boy and his younger sister Emma Rose from baking up almost 250 cakes since they started on their mission to bake cakes to sell to raise funds for the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia.
Their hope is to raise sufficient funds to help the Subang Jaya based national charity fulfill wishes of terminally ill children across the country.
Under the watchful supervision of their mother Ng Si Hooi, the siblings have been baking non-stop to meet the orders that have come in from Subang Jaya residents and even residents from as far as Bandar Sri Damansara and Desa Park City.
“In the beginning, Ryan was expecting to bake and sell only 50 cakes but the orders have swelled to 250 cakes. Many of those who ordered the cakes wanted us to share it with children’s homes; old folks homes and even with our frontliners.”
“Some of the people who ordered the cakes also gave extra for the charity,” Si Hooi said.
When prompted if he would try baking other cakes or cookies, Ryan innocently said he only knew how to bake chocolate chiffon cakes for now.
Ryan said that he was inspired to give back in the spirit of Christmas after seeing his younger sister Emma Rose donating her hair to charity recently.
“Since I was stuck at home, I thought it would be great to do something for charity too,” he said.
Recently Ryan and Emma Rose popped in at the SS17 Fire & Rescue Department and the Subang Jaya Police District in USJ8 to share some of their cakes with the firemen and policemen on duty. The cakes were bought and sponsored by well-wishers who wanted to share them with frontliners. The siblings also dropped by at USJ13 to share some of their cakes with the paramedic team manning the Subang Jaya Community Ambulance service.
Ryan’s chocolate chiffon cakes are priced at RM12 each. He will continue to take orders until December 20. Delivery is available in the Subang Jaya and USJ area (self-pickup can be arranged).
All profits from the sale will go to CWS to help fulfil the wishes of children faced with life-limiting illness.
