Forty Deepavali Kolam entries kept judges up all night deciding who wins the top prizes

JUDGES had a tough time deciding which would be chosen as the Top 3 Deepavali Kolam for the inaugural contest which was open to every in Subang Jaya.

Organised by the Indian Community Leader for DUN Subang Jaya Baranitharan Latchimanan and hosted by Subang Parade, the competition saw the participation of 40 households who decorated their homes with their own idea of a Kolam.

Second prize winner: Hema a/p Raja Dorai from USJ12

Entries were narrowed down to the final 8 before judges had to pick the Top 3 which carried a prize money of RM500; RM300 and RM200.

The best Kolam winner was by Kavitha a/p Vinayakam from PJS7 who had designed her entry inside her house. The second prize went to Hema a/p Raja Dorai from USJ12 while Saratha a/p Vithylingam from Bandar Sunway took the third prize.

ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng gave away the main prizes. Guan Di Temple Bandar Sunway chairman Koay Teng Koon gave away the consolation prizes which the temple had graciously sponsored.

“I was impressed with the Kolams which were designed. This competition is the biggest one ever organised in conjunction with Deepavali,” Michelle said.
