SUNWAY Group has submitted a proposal to construct a flyover across Persiaran Kewajipan to the Subang Jaya City Council as part of Sunway City’s traffic dispersal plan as well as for the areas in its vicinity.
According to the proposal which was presented to residents of SS14 recently, the single directional flyover will start from Jalan Lagoon Selatan towards and across Persiaran Kewajipan before branching into the Kelana-Subang Link and the New Pantai Expressway ramp.
During the briefing in SS14 which is the second such session on the project, officials from Sunway shared the revised proposal which notably took into account the residents’ concerns which had been raised during the first briefing which was carried out almost three months ago.
In the earlier proposal, Sunway had proposed traffic to be allowed to head towards the Persiaran Kewajipan roundabout and NPE ramp. It met with objections from residents who raised concern about allowing more traffic to the already congested roundabout.
In the latest proposal which took into consideration the concern, Sunway proposed that traffic from the new flyover would only be allowed to head towards the Kelana-Subang Link or towards the NPE ramp heading to Sunway City. Traffic would not be allowed to head to the roundabout.
“Traffic flow coming from the direction of USJ will be status quo and can still head to the NPE ramp and roundabout. The existing U-turn below the Kelana-Subang Link between SS13 and SS14 will be relocated a pier down and redesigned to cater to the new upgrade.”
“During the construction phase, all measures will be taken to ensure minimal disruption to the existing traffic flow along Persiaran Kewajipan as well as traffic from SS14/6M,” an official from Sunway said, adding that the flyover will be built along the boundaries of Persiaran Kewajipan and would not impede on any space in the SS14 residential area.
During the question and answer time, several of the 200 residents who attended the briefing questioned the viability of the flyover and raised their concern that it would only bring more traffic to the already congested Persiaran Kewajipan.
Woo, a house owner along Jalan SS14/2 fronting Persiaran Kewajipan took the lead in shooting down the proposed flyover claiming that it would only increase the traffic volume to the already congested road. He claims to represent 600 residents in SS14. The IT Consultant by profession further claimed that the construction period of the flyover would cause noise and air pollution to the neighbourhood apart from creating a traffic nightmare for residents.
