Sunway The Good Run Returns In Aid Of Cancer Awareness

Returning for the second time after its successful debut in 2017, Sunway The Good Run once again drew more than 7,000 noble-hearted Malaysians to race on the elevated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – Sunway Line tracks and around Sunway City Kuala Lumpur to promote cancer awareness and prevention through healthy living.

Present to officiate the event by flagging off the 5KM race category was Y.A.M.Tengku Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Board of Trustee for Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and Selangor Youth Community (SAY), accompanied by Sarena Cheah, Executive Director of Sunway Berhad and Lau Beng Long, Managing Director of Sunway Group Healthcare Services.

A well-known advocate for eco-sustainable practices and her “#sayno2plastic” social media movement, YAM Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris endorses, “Mindset change does not happen overnight, it is by acting on small conscious choices that makes it a lasting habit. Sunway The Good Run facilitates this change by creating awareness on eco-sustainability and a major health issue in one event. What makes the running event more empowering is that it also educates the participants to take necessary actions to live healthier and greener.”

Held in conjunction with Sunway Medical Centre’s 20th anniversary and supported by Rapid KL and Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya, Sunway The Good Run brought more than 7,000 participants together and collected approximately RM275,000 towards supporting medical treatment costs for cancer patients of the B40 group via the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund.

“Sunway The Good Run serves as a platform to bring the community together to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In line with our commitment towards Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being as well as Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, we want to educate the public on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle for a sustainable future,” said Sarena Cheah, Executive Director of Sunway Berhad.

Lau Beng Long, Managing Director of Sunway Group Healthcare Services also shared, “As Sunway Medical Centre moves into empowering the communities through Sunway The Good Run, it creates a culture of care among the participants; empowering them to empower others around them in their individual journeys to achieving good health. With the participation of cancer survivors in this run, it also brings across the message of support group empowerment – where cancer survivors and patients themselves can be a source of encouragement and empowerment to other patients as they choose to practice a healthy lifestyle.”

In conjunction with Sunway Medical Centre’s 20th anniversary, the run featured a 20KM category instead of the usual 21KM (half marathon) category. This is to encourage healthy habits and to foster a healthy lifestyle among the community. 20 lucky prizes were also given out to lucky winners.

Sunway The Good Run also holds special significance for a group of cancer survivors from Sunway Medical Centre, who decided to participate in the 5KM run event as a meaningful contribution and encouragement to fellow cancer patients battling the disease. Through their participation, these cancer communities come together to support a patient’s journey to recovery.
