The 5 Pillars of Reflection

Happy December Everyone! Tis the season to be jolly, merry and celebrate!

December is my favorite time of the year, the holiday spirit sweeping through every nook and cranny fills me with joy and reflection, as we count our blessings for 2024 and gear up for 2025.

I get in a reflective mood this time of year, and there are 5 pillars that I reflect on and reset for, as we embrace the new year.

The 5 pillars are Self, Health, Financial, Love and Connection.

Self

Self-reflection is probably the most important pillar for our mental well-being and growth. There are many useful tools that we could use to self-reflect, for example Johari’s window. Think of this as us and our closest circle appraising ourselves. What have we done well this year?

What could we have done better or differently? What have we achieved, and where have we had shortfalls?

What have we learnt about ourselves this year? Don’t beat yourself up when you’re self-reflecting. We tend have a negative bias when it comes to reflection, but remember, hindsight wisdom is 20/20. Meaning, if we knew everything we know now, we wouldn’t have made any mistakes, which is impossible! What’s important is to reflect and make sure we don’t make those same mistakes again. The more honest we are with our answers, the more we are preparing ourselves for growth in 2025.

Health

The health pillar is crucial for our peak performance.  How would you rate your nutrition this year? Have you been eating well? Fueling your body with what it requires for peak performance? How about your exercise regime?

What are you going to do about it?

For us to achieve fulfill our maximum potential, we need a healthy, functioning body. Most people trade their health for wealth in the beginning, then they trade their wealth for health later. There can be a balance where the balance of trading need not be too significant.

Financial

The financial pillar is vital to our present security and future building. Have you saved and invested regularly this year? What are you doing to earn more in 2025?  Or as I would phrase it, what value are you adding by your skills, knowledge and services that people will want to exchange their money for?

If I could leave you with a financial quote this year, “Treat your money like your wife, only you can touch her and always cherish, respect and love her!”

Love

The love pillar gives our life meaning. It fulfills us, reminds us that what we are doing is more than just for ourselves. Love is a wide-ranging emotion. We share our love with our partner, our family, our children, our pets, our friends and of course, ourselves!

How has your love health been doing in 2024? What are you doing to show your love to those around you?

When was the last time you told your parents, children and significant other, I love you? Don’t wait till it’s too late to say what you want to say.

You never know how much it could mean to that special someone. Having a healthy love pillar keeps our love tank full and gives us the drive to do and achieve more, because we have someone to do it for.

Connection

Finally, there is the connection pillar. This pillar is reserved for our friends, colleagues, peers and such.

Humans are herd creatures, since the stone age we have congregated in a herd for safety. If you were alone, you were more likely to be eaten by a saber-tooth tiger!

Our connections add the final piece of the puzzle to a fulfilled life. Having a clan gives us a different kind of joy.

What I have learnt this year is to be intentional with friendship. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. That’s the average income, happiness, even IQ!

So, choose your connections wisely, and build deep connections with the people you care about and who care about you. It’s nice to know that someone has got our back.

The year 2024 has been a remarkable one for my family and I, and I am ever so thankful.

As I count my blessings for the year, I want to say a huge thank you to all of you for reading my articles and sending so much love my way.

I wish you a wonderful end of the year, and in 2025, I wish you abundance. An abundance of everything your heart desires.

You absolutely deserve the best the world has to offer; all you need is the courage to seize it. And on this note, I wish you courage. The courage to overcome fear and doubt and fulfill your highest potential.

Here’s wishing you season’s greetings, a Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a very Happy New Year!
