Wesak Day Blessing: Sunway to Build Road & Parking for Three Temples

SUBANG JAYA, MAY 4 2023: SUNWAY Group has pledged RM7mil to build an access road and parking bays to help improve traffic flow around three temples in Subang Jaya.

Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah and ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng jointly announced the corporate social responsibility project which will benefit the devotees of the three temples which are located side-by-side in SS13 – Subang Jaya Buddhist Association; Sri Varatharaja Perumal Temple and Gurdwara Sahib Subang.

“During our engagement with Sunway on their proposed plans to upgrade the junction at Jalan Lagoon Selatan-Persiaran Kewajipan for the Sunway South Quay Square project, we brought up the urgent need to improve the traffic flow and parking situation at the three temples.”

“Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah has agreed to fund the project to address the problem at the three temples. Once completed it will provide 90 parking bays and with a ring road to alleviate the traffic flow,” Michelle said during a press conference with Jeffrey and MBSJ deputy mayor Zulkurnain Che Ali after the Wesak Day celebrations at SJBA.

Michelle said these places of worship served not only the Subang Jaya and USJ community but also those from Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam as well.

“The ring road will allow entry from between SJBA and the Gurdwara into Jalan Lagoon Selatan and back.”

“I am thankful to Sunway Group who has once again demonstrated its commitment towards the sustainable development agenda by placing its community’s interest at the forefront of its business operations. We hope this will inspire other corporations to do the same,” she said.

Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah thanked SJBA for the invitation to the Wesak Day celebrations.

“The association between Sunway and SJBA goes back 30 years. SJBA has served as a community centre offering welfare and well being programs. As a business we are closely aligned to make a positive impact in the community. When this issue was raised I asked my team to look into it.”

“It will take about 1.5 years to get this ring road and parking bays ready once we get the green light from MBSJ to start work,” he said.

“Sunway will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. We will continue to walk the talk in serving the community here. I hope our efforts will inspire others to do the same,” he added.

Zulkurnain said MBSJ would expedite the approval process once it received the final submission from Sunway for the project.

SJBA chairman Chim Siew Choon who spoke on behalf of the three temples thanked Sunway for the project which will greatly help in easing the traffic flow around the three temples especially during festivals.
