The dust has been stirred up lately in Subang Jaya. The big issue stems from the lack of or absence of desired commitment towards the issues of hygiene. Yes. SS15 is just one example, and you can see the same issue in SS14, Taipan USJ9 & 10 and USJ21. However, SS15 being the oldest and one synonymous with the commercial heart of old Subang Jaya seemed obvious. Along with SS14, it has an enormous impact on the image of Subang Jaya.
Five years have passed since MPSJ became MBSJ. A city status obtained on 20th October 2020. Yes, that is right in the middle of Covid -19 and in between lockdowns. MBSJ had a huge celebration called ‘Festival Subang Jaya 2025’ which was held around Nu Empire and Subang Parade Shopping Centres on 26th October 2025.
However, the past 5 years have seen us having 4 mayors to date. We began with Noraini Roslan who served as the first mayor till 2022, Johary Anuar till 2023, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim till 2024 and now Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim. We need stability in tenure. Otherwise, it would be hard for the local government to govern effectively with planned policies and strategies.
The councilors who have been appointed just as with the position of the mayor need to be more aggressive in the issues of hygiene. It is time to really get down and dirty and address issues which even the ADUN of Subang Jaya seem helpless to resolve.
This is a far cry compared to when we had the previous ADUN who understood the need of Subang Jaya. She had a tough time as the Federal Government at her tenure mostly was not in sync with the Selangor Government. It is different with the tenure of the current ADUN who is now is the 2nd term. If trends are to be seen, this ADUN would not stand in Subang Jaya at the next election as a new face would appear. There are still particularly critical issues still left glaringly undone in Subang Jaya, especially in this constituency.
Connectivity of safe and secured pedestrian pathways to and from the public transportation hubs. These include not only the LRT stations but also the bus stops. The idea of being safe and secure should be based on existing building by laws and improved upon. This would cover the width and materials used for the pathways. These must be physically challenged friendly and even baby stroller friendly. One of the most glaring ones was the removal of the pedestrian bridge from the USJ7 LRT and BRT station towards DaMen commercial area. (the shopping component now has a new name called EasyHome). The on-grade pedestrian crossing is too narrow.
Cleaner commercial areas. This has never been solved as some irresponsible business owners continue to be a bad example to the public. This encouraged an equal representation of equally irresponsible public. What use are laws and by laws if not used against all who flaunt regardless of background? What is there to fear?
It is not difficult to see how bad the situation is now. I have been monitoring Facebook and the Social Media and found that the stories which SJEcho carried in the last issue did not seem to see a concrete reaction of the hygiene and sanitation condition of SS15. Has the MBSJ Mayor, councilor or the ADUN come out strongly? Maybe they are waiting for someone to complain to Nga Kor Ming. The Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia.
Bicycle lanes have become an afterthought. Whatever happened to dedicated bicycle lanes? If Subang Jaya wants to be a model city within Malaysia, then it should at least look at improving the bicycle lanes for these to be safe and secure to use. If we want to have more people taking low carbon transport alternatives, then facilities and infrastructure must be hastened. Kuala Lumpur has started but that leaves much for improvement. Best to look at Japan and learn. If I am not wrong, Subang Jaya’s sister city is Hioki in Kagoshima, Japan. Based on the internet, ‘Hioki City, Kagoshima and Subang Jaya Municipal Council, Selangor signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friendship City at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council on 28 August 2012.’
Landscaping. Your eyes would be blind if you come in from the Federal Highway and exit at the first turn heading to the fork leading you towards SJMC, Subang Parade and KTM Station where you do not see an ugly unkempt jungle. It is also such a shame that all the landscape below the infamous Kelana Jaya link is barren. Is it not a shame to see the trees felled in front of Summit USJ and at the perimeter of USJ2 for a failed project still remain as is? We must be blind and do not care less.
Subang Jaya has 10 LRT stations including the Putra Heights and Subang Jaya stations. These are complemented with the BRT service beginning at the USJ7 LRT station towards Bandar Sunway and ending at the Setia Jaya KTM station. Hence, the need for a safe and secure pedestrian pathway to and from these including bus stops.
Subang Jaya has two private medical facilities but lag in creating a public medical facility. We wonder why it has taken so long when health care for an ageing population and escalating medical costs are not taken as priority.
We have 24 Councilors. You can find them here: https://portal.mbsj.gov.my/ms/info-korporat/info-pengurusan/ahli-majlis
The following are from MBSJ’s own website.
Dasar Kualiti MBSJ
The above is the promise. Will they keep it? Will the ADUN take heed?
