Fire at MBSJ Headquarters Close to Midnight

A fire that broke out at the Subang Jaya City Council headquarters in USJ5 close to midnight triggered an immediate response from the SS17 Fire & Rescue Department and council response team last night.

The fire which was detected just half an hour before midnight was partially contained by the building’s sprinkler system and subsequently extinguished by firemen who rushed into the affected part of the office.

Ten firemen from the SS17 Fire & Rescue Department arrived at the scene at 11.32pm and successfully put out the remaining fire within minutes.

MBSJ deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali was at the scene.

In an immediate response, Zulkurnain said there were no casualties.

“We suspect the fire could have been caused by an electrical short circuit. But we will leave it to the Fire & Rescue Department to carry out a thorough investigation on the cause of the fire.”

“I have issued a reminder to all MBSJ staff to be extra careful and check their workstations before leaving for home at the end of their work day. Non-essential electrical items should be switched off. Malang tidak berbau,” he said.

Zulkurnain also took the opportunity to remind Subang Jaya residents to check their homes and switch off non-essential electrical items before leaving for their hometown for Hari Raya in the coming weeks.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire & Rescue Department forensics unit.
