JPJ LISTS SEVEN NON-COMPOUNDABLE TRAFFIC OFFENCES DURING AIDILFITRI

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said these seven offences are queue cutting, overtaking on a double line, disobeying a red traffic light, driving over the speed limit, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, and abuse of emergency lanes.

“Also enforced is the ban on goods-carrying vehicles from using the roads for two days before Aidilfitri, which is April 20 and 21, and two days after the festival, which is April 24 and 25, aiming at avoiding risks of accidents due to the mixed traffic flow between heavy vehicles and light vehicles, and to avoid traffic crawls,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the road safety programme in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration, at the Taman Prima Saujana Ramadan food stall, here today.

Meanwhile, Hasbi said a total of 2,000 JPJ enforcement personnel are involved in integrated operations codenamed Ops Bersepadu, which started today until April 27 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration, with a focus on 76 black spot locations on federal roads which are among the areas with the highest accident rate.

He added that methods such as covert and overt strategies, including the use of drones in certain locations, to monitor and record unsafe driving ethics by drivers, as well as violations of traffic rules, will also be implemented by JPJ.

Among the enforcement actions implemented are monitoring and enforcement in accident black spots; Perception of Being Caught (POBC) and Ops Khas Motosikal, he said.

“JPJ also conducted operations, codenamed Pra-Ops Hari Raya, from April 14 until yesterday, which involved checking buses at 76 depots and 28 main bus terminals nationwide, to ensure that buses are always in a state of road worthiness, as well as conducting spot checks including at rest and service (R&R) areas on expressways nationwide,” he said.

Meanwhile, JPJ director-general, Datuk Zailani Hashim, who was also present at the programme, said personnel deployed under Ops Bersepadu will be increased as needed and can reach up to 2,500.– BERNAMA
