Tourism unaffected by hot weather, says minister

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) — The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry is confident the current hot weather in the country will not jeopardise the tourism industry.

Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said the weather is not a hindrance to travel by domestic and foreign tourists, and some tourists, in fact, love the hot weather.

“Foreign tourists, particularly from the cold countries, like to come here (to Malaysia) and many more will come,” he said after opening the Annual Conference of Malaysian Libraries, here, today.

He also said that the hot weather will not adversely affect the projected 28.1 million tourist arrivals to Malaysia this year.

On another matter, Mohamaddin said the ministry will require all its agencies, including the Seri Malaysia Hotels, to set up mini libraries or reading corners to support the existing library network.

“We also encourage homestay entrepreneurs to set up reading corners at their premises and organise activities with the rural libraries to encourage the reading habit,” he said.– BERNAMA
