Contraband Smokes Found Hidden in Garbage Compartment in USJ21

Contraband cigarettes found stashed in the garbage compartment

SUBANG JAYA,JULY 6 2019: SUBANG Jaya Municipal Council member Lee Jen Uyin did not expect that a regular Ops Tikus to rid the USJ21 commercial area of rodents would haul in a large stash of contraband cigarettes hidden in the garbage compartment located at the back lane of a sundry shop.

The morning started with Lee who is MPSJ Zone 3 councillor and her team of volunteers going along the back lanes of the USJ21 commercial area to pick up dead rats (which had consumed rat poison) with the council’s health department team. She chanced upon a sundry shop along USJ21/4 which had live chicken occupying two garbage compartments at the back lane (live chicken is not permitted to be sold at sundry shops in commercial areas under MPSJ bylaws and licensing conditions).

The team also noticed a third compartment which was locked. Suspicion was raised when the sundry shop worker who is a foreigner kept insisting that he did not have the key to the padlock for the compartment. Noticing something amiss, the team staked out the shop right after the Ops Tikus team left the back lane; and true enough the worker opened the compartment right after that.

Lee rushed over and found contraband cigarettes stacked up in shelves that had been built in the garbage compartment. There were several popular brands of cigarettes. Several boxes of contraband cigarettes which had just been moved from the compartment to the store room inside the sundry shop were also found.

The find was also conveyed to MPSJ president Noraini Rosland and her deputy Zulkurnain Che Ali were also sent the information.

This morning’s Ops Tikus picked up 44 dead rats with a bonus of cartons of contraband cigarettes from USJ21.
