SUBANG Jaya residents have every reason to smile. The long-awaited plans for a health clinic to be built is making progress over the last one and a half years; and if everything goes well, the RM35mil facility to serve the community of Subang Jaya will be completed by 2024.
The health clinic which is planned to be located in USJ 1 will be a Klinik Kesihatan Jenis 3 Manjoi (high rise), with a land area covering 17,150sq m (which is about the size of two football fields).
Work behind the scenes to have our own health clinic to serve the needs of the community started way back during former ADUN Subang Jaya Dato Lee Hwa Beng’s tenure; and continued through former ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh’s term and is now being spearheaded by ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng and Subang MP Wong Chen.
“On 24 February 2021, I attended the site visit at the land identified for the Klinik Kesihatan with Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah, the Land Office and MBSJ.”
“Officials at the site visit informed in brief that the said land is where the Klinik Kesihatan will be situated, the size of the land, and that the transfer of the land from the Education Ministry to the Health Ministry has been completed. The tender process is expected to be completed by this year end, “ Michelle said.
She said, “If all goes well, and assuming there are no hiccups or intervening events, construction is expected to begin next year.”
“When PH ruled for 22 months, I managed to get a budget commitment from the then Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye. The budget has been included into RMK12 and is finally about to kick off.”
“The project would not have been possible without the efforts of YB Lee Hwa Beng and YB Hannah Yeoh; YB Michelle and I played our roles but we are primarily custodians to the efforts and work of many others before us,” Wong Chen said.
According to Michelle, the health clinic is a crucial facility for the township which has been without one for too long.
“Back in 2015, the census showed we have 174,494 residents residing in DUN Subang Jaya. This is expected to increase to 293,209 by 2035,” she said
The clinic which will be located on the plot of land just behind SJK (C) Chee Wen is expected to be able to cater to 50,000 patients.
The clinic will offer maternal and paediatric care, rehabilitation therapy, outpatient medical care, pharmaceutical support services, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and emergency care.
The land where the health clinic will be built has room to cater for any future expansion.
