KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) — Action under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) can be taken if diesel contamination of Sungai Selangor was the work of saboteurs, said Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.
He said police will use all available means to investigate the case and that the Selangor police chief had been instructed to get to the bottom of the matter.
“Sosma can be thrown at saboteurs of infrastructure important to consumers. I will not compromise on this (contamination of the river) as four to five million people were left high and dry,” he told reporters after attending the official launch of the National Strategy for Financial Literacy 2019-2023 at Auditorium Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara here today.
The event was launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The IGP said sabotage cases of utilities were previously dealt with under the Internal Security Act, which has since been repealed. – BERNAMA
