With Chinese New Year just weeks away, Subang Jaya’s top cop ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat is reminding residents to abstain from letting off firecrackers in the district.
“Playing with and letting off firecrackers which contain combustible materials is prohibited by law.”
“This friendly reminder is to stress that playing with firecrackers including selling or buying them is not permitted at all,” he said.
Wan Azlan said only fireworks, specifically Pop-Pop and Happy Boom were allowed.
“The sale of Pop-Pop and Happy Boom requires a permit from the police and must adhere to certain requirements.”
“Anyone caught selling fireworks without a permit can be charged under Seksyen 7 & 8 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 207) which provides for a jail sentence of seven years or a fine of RM10,000,” he added.
Wan Azlan said those caught playing with firecrackers that were banned could face a jail sentence of not more than a month or fined RM100 or both.
“I would like to urge residents to abide by the law and abstain from playing with firecrackers to avoid any repercussions. Your cooperation is most appreciated,” he said.
