The smoking ban came into force in January and the education enforcement ends on Dec 31. After that, those caught smoking at or within three metres of eateries will be slapped fines up to RM10,000 or a maximum of two years jail.
Owners of eateries who do not display the smoking ban face a RM3,000 fine or six months jail.
Speaking to reporters after conducting an operation on the smoking ban at the Commercial Centre in Section 7 here today, Selangor Health Department director, Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim said of the 4,332 notices, 232 were issued to individuals found smoking at eateries while the rest to owners where cigarette butts and ash were found at the their premises.
He said the ban also applied to electronic cigarettes and shisha smoking.
