Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (Penyayang) chairman Nori Abdullah said, however, other elements of the event were still maintained based on legacy and tradition.
“We don’t always display batik items, but this year, we have been given some space from the venue host for opening sales booths as well. So anyone who is interested in batik items, can purchase them while attending the event,” she told reporters after a press conference here today.
Nori said she also expected the number of participants this year to be more than the 3000-plus recorded last time.
Meanwhile, Penyayang chief executive officer Datuk Leela Mohd Ali said due to its limited resources, the foundation appealed for assistance in cash or kind to ensure the sustenance of its activities and programmes.
“Today, we have with us sponsors and friends who have come forward to help Penyayang. It is only with their continued support that foundation is able to successfully organise the Batik Fun Walk every year,” she said.
The 2019 Batik Fun Walk which will be held on Oct 13 is an annual charity programme organised by Penyayang and the money raised through entry fees will be channeled to ‘Penyayang Pesakit Kanser’ to assist cancer patients and their families.
The 3.8-km charity walk will start and finish at the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur and will be flagged-off by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.
The entry fee for the fun walk is RM35 per person and all participants will receive a batik sarong.
