Cleaning Up SS15

THE deplorable conditions in the SS15 commercial area especially the litter along the roads and five-foot ways; and the drains which are clogged with rubbish and debris prompted university students to come out in numbers to clean up their surroundings.

As many as 300 students from Inti International University and Colleges joined hands with ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng’s office and members of MBSJ MPP Zon 1 to clean up the whole commercial area in SS15 in a Mega Gotong-Royong last month.

Students and lecturers jumped into the drains to clear up stretches which were clogged with garbage; swept the streets and picked up rubbish along the way, something which seems to have been neglected by the contractors engaged by the city council to do.

At the end of the initiative, students managed to even collect items which could be recycled. The groups collected more than 45kg of recyclable items valued at RM93.80.

While their efforts may seem to be a drop in the ocean, keeping SS15 clean truly relies on several factors namely cooperation from the public to stop littering; the local council providing more bins for rubbish disposal and cleaning contractors doing what they are supposed to be doing, effectively.
