Couple Ties the Knot Online in Subang Jaya

Mohd Amir Syauqi bin Mohd Azham and Nurul Idayu binti Masseri will have a lifetime experience to share with their children and grandchildren for years to come.

The newly-weds became the first couple in Subang Jaya to have their akad nikah (solemnisation of marriage) done online on June 7 2020.

Admitting that they were initially nervous about this new normal, both Mohd Amir Syauqi and Nurul Idayu decided to take the bold step forward to get married.

“We had planned before the onset of the Movement Control Order and subsequently the Conditional MCO to have our akad nikah on May 31 but the circumstances of the pandemic made it difficult for us to carry on in the usual way.”

“Having the akad nikah in the old way was difficult during the lockdown. So we decided to do it online,” Nurul Idayu, 22 said.

The closed door ceremony was held at home in SS14 with only close family members present; and keeping to the SOPs on the number of people who could be present. The couple had applied for a permit from the police to proceed with the ceremony and was given strict guidelines to adhere to; which they did to the book.

“We will remember this historic page in our lives for a long, long time. We can tell our ‘anak-cucu’ (children and grandchildren) about how we got married online.”

“Many of our friends wanted to join us but we could not allow it because we wanted to make sure we abided by the SOPs under the CMCO,” Mohd Amir Syauqi, 25 said.

There was an emotional point during the akad nikah when the bride shed tears while talking on video conferencing with her father who was in Pahang and could not be with her because of the inter-state travel restrictions.

The akad nikah ceremony was conducted on video conferencing with the Imam from the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department. The ceremony lasted almost half an hour.

Nurul Idayu who just graduated as a medical assistant will be joining the frontline soon at the hospital she has been assigned to while Mohd Amir Syauqi who works at the MRT control centre will resume work soon.

CONGRATULATIONS Nurul Idayu and Mohd Amir Syauqi!
