It was a bright and cheerful Saturday morning as a diverse group of students, youth volunteers, and community members came together to breathe new life into a 300-metre stretch along Jalan SS19/1—one sapling at a time.
More than just a tree planting exercise, the programme was a hands-on lesson in environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and the power of collective action. Once matured, the trees are expected to improve air quality, provide much-needed shade, and help cool the urban heat.
Organisers said the event not only made a tangible difference to the landscape, but also sowed seeds of awareness and pride among the participants. “It’s inspiring to see young people and residents roll up their sleeves and get involved. This is how communities grow—together,” said one volunteer.
As the last sapling was watered and mulched, it was clear that the effort had already taken root in more ways than one.
