New Community Pickleball Courts Open in USJ to Serve Growing Interest

Residents in USJ can now serve, smash and rally in their own backyard with the addition of two brand-new community pickleball courts in USJ14 and USJ16, a move that offers free access to the fast-growing sport for those curious to give it a go.

Unlike the mushrooming number of commercial “rent to play” pickleball venues sprouting up across Subang Jaya, these community courts, refurbished by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) at a cost of RM39,000 offer a no-cost entry point for beginners keen to explore whether the sport is their cup of tea.

MBSJ Councillor for Zone 3, Ken Chia, said the initiative was aimed at making the sport more accessible to residents of all ages. “Now residents who want to try their hand at pickleball for the first time will be able to do so right in their neighbourhood,” he said, urging the community to care for the courts so they remain usable for years to come.

A third court in USJ13 is expected to be completed soon, pending final surfacing and paintwork.

Ken, himself a pickleball enthusiast, said he has proposed nine courts across his zone to be upgraded to support the sport. “Pickleball has the potential to bring people together. It’s fun, fast-paced and great for fitness. These public courts will hopefully spark more local interest.”

Pickleball, a paddle sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong, has steadily gained a following in Subang Jaya and the rest of the country, with more players of all ages picking up the game for its accessibility and social appeal.
