Urgent Appeal: Subang Jaya Community Ambulance Faces Shutdown Without Adequate Funding

The Subang Jaya Community Ambulance is at the brink of a shutdown as a severe funding crisis, which jeopardises its continued operations looms closer.

The costs associated with maintaining and equipping the ambulance and meeting essential operational expenses have become increasingly challenging to cover, according to Persatuan Bantuan Kecemasan dan Bomba Komuniti (SJ Beacon) president TH Teoh said.

“We only have funds to continue running the community ambulance for the next two months. If we cannot raise sufficient funds in this period to top up the depleting amount, we will have no other choice but to permanently shut down the service.”

“Our community ambulance service plays a critical role in providing immediate medical assistance to those in need. Over the years, our dedicated team of paramedics and medical professionals has responded to countless emergencies, saving lives and ensuring the well-being of our fellow community members. But this will come to a halt once funds dry up,” he said.

According to Teoh, the cost of operating the community ambulance had spiked in recent years as the number of cases the team responds to increased. The service now requires almost RM25,000 per month to run.

“Back in 2020, we responded to 557 medical emergency cases in Subang Jaya alone. This went up to 1,008 in 2021 and 1,026 in 2022.”

“The costs associated with maintaining and equipping the ambulance and meeting essential operational expenses have become increasingly challenging to cover with the increase in cases we attended to,” he added.

Teoh said access to prompt and quality emergency medical services is a fundamental right for every individual in our community and we cannot allow financial constraints to compromise the safety and well-being of our residents.

“Therefore, we are launching a fundraising campaign to ensure the sustainable operation of our community ambulance. We are reaching out to community leaders, local businesses, and generous individuals who understand the value of this life-saving service and the positive impact it has on our community.”

“Your support and financial contribution can make a significant difference in ensuring the continuity of our community ambulance service. By donating to our cause, you will be directly contributing to the well-being of our community and saving lives during critical moments of need,” he added.
