State Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Papparaidu said so far the vouchers have been given out for three main festivals, namely Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali.
“We have outlined only three main festivals for now. If there is a request or proposal from this noble house (Selangor State Legislative Assembly), maybe we will consider it through a state executive committee meeting (MMKN) and will submit (the proposal) to obtain permission.
“In the context of these three festivals, usually Chinese Christians will receive the vouchers for Chinese New Year and Indian Christians for Deepavali as well,” he said.
He said this in response to a question by Dr Quah Perng Fei (PH-Bandar Baru Klang), regarding the proposal to add Christmas to the Shopping Festival Voucher Programme at the Selangor state assembly meeting today.
Meanwhile, Papparaidu said the state government also agreed to raise the shopping assistance from RM100 to RM200 based on the recipient’s income, with the recipient’s household limit being increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000.
The Jom Shopping Festival Voucher Programme is an annual assistance programme implemented since 2012 by the state government to help relieve the burden of the people during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali celebrations, with every family that is less able being given vouchers for the purchase of necessities at selected supermarkets.– BERNAMA
