Senior Citizen Raises RM15K to Feed the Hunger

When senior citizen Chan Yow Wai took on the challenge to go bald to raise funds for the Lions Club Subang Jaya Go Bald to Feed the Hunger campaign, little did he expect to rake in RM15,000 within four days.

“I initially set myself a target of RM3,000 when I offered my crown for the campaign. The response was slow at the beginning but once it picked up, I was getting pledges every half an hour.”

“I approached a small group of friends and my neighbours to help me raise the funds. My wife Karen and I landed up spending a lot of time keeping up with the pledges that came in and the money which being deposited into our account for the cause,” he said.

Chan said he offered to go bald for the campaign because he felt it was a meaningful effort to feed the hunger of those who were badly hit by the movement control order.

“The initiative by the Lions Club Subang Jaya was noble and I felt compelled to help raise the much needed funds to help them provide food for the needy and poor.”

“I am very grateful to my friends, family and neighbours who were very supportive of my efforts and the amount raised is testimony of their support,” he said.

Karen sportingly supported her husband’s wish to help the cause by shaving his head bald. She “played” the hair stylist who trimmed and eventually shaved Chan’s head bald.

“It was fun shaving my husband’s head for him. But I dread to think that there will be a bald man sleeping next to me tonight,” she quipped.
