SJBA Faces RM400,000 Repair Bill After Devastating Fire

Community rallies as temple begins recovery efforts

The fire that tore through the upper floor of the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA) building last month has left behind not just physical scars, but a hefty repair bill estimated at no less than RM400,000.

SJBA president Chim Siew Choon said the association is still awaiting the official forensic report from the Fire and Rescue Department as well as an assessment from the insurance adjusters. However, preparations are already underway to begin repair and restoration works as soon as clearance is given.

“We hope to start repairs as soon as possible. Today, we received donations totalling RM30,000 from various quarters. We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support,” said Chim.

The donors who contributed the RM30,000 were Titijaya Land Berhad (RM10,000); Tuju Setia Berhad (RM5,000); HCK Properties (RM3,000);  China Construction Development (RM1,000);  MBSJ MPP Zone 3 (RM1,000) and ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng from her political secretary’s fund (RM10,000).

He added that the association is determined to restore the premises and resume normal activities quickly, despite the extent of the damage. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of October 5, gutted parts of the upper floor and caused extensive damage to the roof, ceiling, and internal facilities.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Chim said that well-wishers wishing to contribute to the restoration fund may channel their donations to the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association, CIMB Bank Account No: 800-329-4666, and WhatsApp the bank-in slip to Sis Lily at 010-771 9480.
