SUBANG JAYA, AUGUST 18 2020: SELANGOR Police will carry out a feasibility study to consider installing AES (Automated Enforcement System) cameras and CCTV cameras in accident prone areas in the State.
Selangor Police Chief Comm Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the move could help authorities tackle motorists who continue to drive above speed limits, especially in accident prone areas.
“We may consider installing the AES and CCTV cameras at accident prone areas to curb speeding and also to monitor the situation in such areas.”
Noor Azam was briefed by Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Risikin Satiman on the recent viral video of an accident at the ingress of the Federal Highway to Persiaran Tujuan which netizens claimed to be caused by a concerted effort by certain quarters for profit.
A day earlier Risikin had said this would help deter motorists from speeding along the bend as vehicles entered the township from the Federal Highway as well as record any untoward incidences along the stretch of road.
Risikin had spent an hour at the ingress with engineers from the Petaling Public Works Department and MPSJ to identify measures which could be taken to reduce accidents along the stretch. This includes resurfacing the road and repairing the guardrails.
“A signage with signal lights will be installed along this stretch to remind motorists to slow down. It will be have lights similar to the crossing between SS19 and USJ2.”
“According to the PWD engineer, the speed limit along the Federal Highway is 80km/h and motorists tend to not slow down as they made their way into Subang Jaya,” he had said.
Risikin had said 29 accidents had been recorded from January this year to August 16 along the ingress to Persiaran Tujuan from the Federal Highway while 38 cases had been reported for the exit from Persiaran Tujuan to Shah Alam.
“The motorist who had an accident in the reported viral video on Aug 14 had recorded her statement that she failed to avoid a puddle of water. This made her lose control of her car,” he said, adding that investigations had revealed that there was no deliberate act by anyone pouring oil on the road,” Risikin had said.
