Subang Jaya Ambulance Receives a Helping Hand from Community and NGO

RUNNING a free community ambulance service takes a lot of grit and endurance especially when attending to a medical emergency. It is tougher however to keep the operations running and sustainability.

The community and NGOs play an important role in lending a helping hand to assist in providing financial support for this important community service, which has attended close to 2,000 cases since it began two years ago.

The Kiwanis Club of Petaling Jaya recently came to the aid of Subang Jaya’s community ambulance when it donated RM2,000 to help with the operations of the service. Datin Rosalind Lee who represented the club handed over the contribution to SJ Beacon operations director Kelvin Chew in a simple ceremony which was witnessed by ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng. Rosalind also handed over her personal contribution of 1000 pairs of latex gloves to the team.

At another event, Bike the Night- Ride Against Crime organizing chairman Har Yin Geong handed over a donation of RM4,000 to SJ Beacon. The amount was raised from the cycling event which had to be cancelled because of the Movement Control Order.

Despite the cancellation, participants who had paid up for the event agreed to channel the funds to the ambulance service. Michelle was also present with MPSJ councillor Lee Jen Uyin present.

The community ambulance service provides medical assistance during emergencies. Operated as a non-profit initiative by the Subang Jaya community itself, the unit relies on public support and donations to continue its service.

If you would like to contribute to the initiative, please contact Kelvin Chew at 012-323 7663
