SUBANG JAYA EXPLORES TO GIVE MORE ROOM TO PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS ON PUBLIC ROADS

SUBANG Jaya is exploring ways to provide more room for pedestrians and cyclists on public roads, according to Mayor Dato Johary Anuar.

According to Johary, he wants the city council to identify routes which could be improved to encourage residents to walk or cycle from their homes or office to the point of destination. This includes providing better accessibility for these two modes to travel to the LRT stations in the city.

“We are exploring how we can provide safe access for pedestrians and cyclists on our roads. This will encourage people to leave their cars at home.”

“This will help us ease the congestion on roads as well as the pressure on providing more parking space for cars,” he said to reporters after completing a few rounds of cycling at the second Car Free Day in SS16 last Sunday.

On the response to the Car Free Day program, Johary said he was happy with the response from the public and is enthusiastic that participation in future programs will increase.

The Selamat Pagi Subang Jaya Car Free Day takes place every first Sunday of the month. Members of the public can enjoy car free roads around Subang Parade and Aeon Big while enjoying themselves walking, jogging, cycling or enjoying the many activities on site.

“We will have more activities and offerings as this program progresses. We hope to see more residents coming out to enjoy the program,” he said.

Also present at the program were ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng and MBSJ MPP Zon 1 councillor Ken Chia.
