SUNWAY PAVES NEW SCHOOL GROUNDS FOR SMK SUBANG JAYA

STUDENTS of SMK Subang Jaya SS14 are now enjoying a spanking new school compound thanks to the Sunway Group’s intervention.

Sunway recently completed an infrastructure improvement works at the school – a corporate social responsibility initiative which forms part of Sunway’s ongoing community enrichment efforts through its philanthropic arm – Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.

The school compound was deteriorating and made uneven through prolonged ponding of rainwater, disrupting morning assemblies and student activities on a regular basis. Sunway Paving Solutions, a business division of Sunway, worked with the school’s Parents Teacher Association (PIBG), the school’s principal and the office of ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng to install interlocking pavers which are designed to withstand extreme weather.

At a special ceremony recently to mark the completion of this refurbishment, SMK Subang Jaya principal Rafidah Rashid and PIBG chair of the school Helmy Izzudin expressed their appreciation for Sunway’s contribution, allowing students to convene and sit comfortably at the assembly area.

“This contribution by Sunway is very much needed to improve the school’s infrastructure and create a conducive environment to realise the aspirations of our national education system. I hope that this collaboration with Sunway Group can continue in the future to help elevate the school in various other aspects, whether financially or through academia,” Helmy said.

“Sunway is celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, and a key pillar of our success over the past five decades has been the support we receive from our communities. Subang Jaya and its residents have been one of Sunway’s earliest and biggest champions, as we evolve from a tin-mining company into one of Southeast Asia’s leading conglomerates. We will continue to work with the teachers and parents who are invested in our education system, as they provide the foundation to build a vibrant and successful community and nation,” Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, deputy chairman of Sunway Group said.
