Home Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said the total amount of losses included RM79.4 million involving 1,612 Macau Scam cases.
“The Home Affairs Ministry has taken a serious look at online fraud cases covering various categories such as telephone and internet fraud, Love Scam, non-existent loans and Macau Scam,” he said during question time at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.
The deputy minister was responding to a question by Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (PH-Sabak Bernam) on online fraud cases involving public savings in banks in Malaysia for this year and the measures taken to resolve the crime.
Various efforts have been made by the police to curb such crimes including increasing law enforcement, operations, arrests and prosecution of those involved in fraudulent activities, Mohd Azis said.–BERNAMA
