Police Probe Viral Videos Alleging Misconduct by Subang Jaya Patrol Officers

Police have launched an investigation into several viral videos circulating on social media that allegedly accuse members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) of misconduct during their duties.

Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that its Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper after videos showing officers from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) performing their routine duties began making rounds online.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the recordings were made during a vehicle inspection. The inspection was conducted in an orderly manner in accordance with established procedures, and all individuals involved were subsequently released,” he said.

However, the police also found other videos that allegedly made defamatory and insulting remarks towards the officers involved in the inspection.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services.

PDRM has reminded the public not to make or share baseless statements, accusations or commentary that could tarnish the image of the police force or cause public confusion.

“Firm action will be taken against anyone found to have misused social media to spread false or defamatory information against PDRM,” he added.

Members of the public with additional information are urged to contact the Subang Jaya District Police Control Centre at 03-78627100 or report to the nearest police station. All informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
